Italian weaving machinery leader Itema has laid the first ceremonial stone for a new site it is constructing in Ponte Nossa in Bergamo.
The former site of the Cantoni Cotton Mill – once the flagsip industrial plant of the Seriana Valley – has been unused since 2004 and was acquired by Itema in 2022. A new industrial requalification plan for the area, to be developed in multiple steps, will see it soon turned into a world class hub for production and engineering.
“In 2022 we made the decision to begin a journey that would lead Itema Group in adapting to the turbulent changes taking place and at the same time strengthen our brand, which is recognised throughout the textile world as an ambassador of Made in Italy,” said CEO Ugo Ghilardi. “One step of this journey involves production, which will find a home in this new manufacturing site in Ponte Nossa. A completion of our industrial presence in Bergamo will also allow our historical site in Colzate to be further developed. Our ambition is to create value in this territory in order to compete in the global textile industry.”
“We are proud to continue our textile journey in Seriana Valley, the cradle of our history, with a project in which vision innovation, and sustainability converge,” added Maurizio Radici, Itema Group’s president of the board of directors. “Our roots are here and this new manufacturing hub represents our investment in a cutting-edge and prosperous future for our territory.”
