Invista’s Cordura brand will sponsor the 2016 Project 20/20 Student Design Awards, which challenge UK fashion design students to envision the future of professional clothing by producing innovative, style focused performance wear designs for the year 2020.

The Awards honour the students’ creativity with industry recognition and cash prizes. A special Cordura Durable Design Award for functional, forward-thinking work apparel will also be presented.

Fresh and vibrant approach

“Innovation is a key component in our brand ethos,” said Cindy McNaull, global brand and marketing director of Cordura fabric. “The creative minds of young designers are essential not only to our brand, but to our role in the industry as we develop the durable fabrics of tomorrow. We are honoured to team up with the Professional Clothing Awards again to celebrate the next generation of textile industry innovators and empower students to design and create the professional clothing of the future.”

The challenge put forth this year is to design corporate wear, workwear or personal protective equipment (PPE) for men and women suitable for jobs in the year 2020.

Students will be showcasing a fresh, young, vibrant approach to their designs without sacrificing garment functionality. Part of the challenge this year is to integrate a range of fabric technologies into the finished design.

Cordura Durable Design Award

The Cordura brand, in addition to sponsoring the awards, is offering special category recognition with the Cordura Durable Design Award. Accompanying the award is a £1,000.00 cash prize. To be considered for the Cordura Durable Design Award, as well as integrating durable fabric functionality and commercial viability into their designs, students will be required to submit a short one-minute video to present their designs and the inspiration behind them.

“The Professional Clothing Awards serve as a host for fresh perspectives, a vital component to the future of the workwear industry,” said Yvette Ashby, managing director of The Professional Clothing Awards.

“It’s incredible to witness how a multi-faceted brand, like Cordura fabric, can help to encourage young design talent towards the next generation of workwear. We are humbled to again have the support of CORDURA fabric, and we are excited to join them in experiencing innovation, first-hand.”  Winners will be announced on 22 June 2016 at the Professional Clothing Awards, which take place during the Safety & Health Expo in London, UK.
