Microban’s Scentry BC100 is a non-antimicrobial solution that absorbs body odours in clothing and footwear made from polyester, spandex, nylon and synthetic blends, caused by organic chemical compounds.

Applied to the fabric during the manufacturing process, it is said to form a protective barrier on the fabric that traps body odours, regenerating itself by releasing the trapped odours during home launderings. According to the manufacturer, the solution captures more than 90% of odours, even after more than 50 typical home launderings, extending the life of the product.

Sustainability and standards

“Ensuring that Microban’s technologies are sustainable is very important to our customers and the end consumer,” said Lisa Owen, senior business director of global textiles for Microban.

“Obtaining a bluesign blue product rating shows our partners we are dedicated to bringing them quality products upon which they can rely. It is vital to the continued growth of our business that we reinforce our commitment to help clean up the textiles supply chain to meet environmental, health and safety requirements.”

Bluesign partner

Microban received bluesign approval in May 2016 for its ZPTech, a wide-spectrum antimicrobial for textiles, and is continually working to receive bluesign approvals for technologies in its portfolio, including AEGIS, AEGIS Excalibur and SilverShield. Microban has been a bluesign partner since 2014.

The bluesign system is the solution for sustainable textile production, eliminating harmful substances from the beginning of the manufacturing process, setting standards for environmentally friendly and safe production. It unites partners in the textile industry worldwide through managing natural resources responsibly, reducing water and air emissions, improving waste water treatment and generally reducing its ecological footprint.
