Sri Lanka-headquartered MAS Holdings, one of South Asia’s largest design-to-delivery solution providers in apparel and textile manufacturing, has committed to reducing its total global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to net zero by 2048.

The company has received official validation of its net-zero and near-term goals from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) – the most widely recognised and rigorous framework for corporate climate action consistent with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

“The approvals of our net-zero and near-term goals by SBTi are pivotal to our climate journey and an affirmation of the real action we are taking to protect the planet while safeguarding our business and the livelihoods within our ecosystem,” said CEO Suren Fernando.  “Today’s climate disruptions remind us that our ability to thrive tomorrow depends on how boldly we act now.”

The approved climate action targets include land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks, aiming to reach net-zero GHG emissions across the value chain by 2048 while reducing absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 80% in 2030 from a 2019 base year.

The company further aims to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services and upstream activities by 46.2% in 2030 and by 90% in 2048.
