Schoeller, a leader in the development of functional, sturdy, hard-wearing stretch fabrics, will exhibit its latest innovative products at the upcoming Techtextil trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens, which will take place from 9-12 May 2017 in Frankfurt, Germany.

The range will include the company’s functional, colour-coordinated motorcycle textiles, which are said to combine a high degree of functionality with trendy looks and maximum comfort, pyroshell – permanent flame protection technology for synthetic fabrics, as well as smart textile innovations.

Schoeller motorcycle textiles

Schoeller’s innovative and sturdy motorcycle segment textiles are specifically designed to serve motor bike manufacturers, brands focused on motorcycle wear and urban commuting, as well as professional motorcyclists such as motorcycle police. The schoeller-dynatec and schoeller-keprotec protective fabrics are characterised by a high degree of abrasion resistance. In addition to the DIN EN 17092 test for protective garments for motorcycle drivers, they are also subjected to a special impact abrasion test in the fall simulator.

Thanks to a coordinated colour concept, the elastic or non-elastic high-tech fabrics can all be perfectly combined with one another in shades of grey, black or red. In conjunction with the Schoeller technologies, such as c_change climate membrane, coldblack heat and UV protection, and ceraspace for extreme abrasion and heat protection in the case of a fall, Schoeller offers the solution for the most varied range of uses.

pyroshell

With its new pyroshell technology, the company says it has succeeded in uniting permanent flame protection with light polyamide or polyester fabrics. For example, pyroshell flame protection can be combined with the highly abrasion-resistant ceraspace technology.

“The familiar benefits of synthetic functional fabrics based on polyamide or polyester are not diminished with pyroshell, such as clothing comfort, breathability, tear resistance, abrasion resistance, elasticity or ease of care,” the company reports. “A particularly outstanding feature is the fact that when used on suitable polyester fabrics, flame protection and visibility can now also be achieved in all the colours for EN ISO 20471 high-visibility clothing – neon yellow, neon orange and neon red.”

All pyroshell qualities are manufactured as soft shells and are also available in camouflage for military uses. The pyroshell technology is produced in accordance with the bluesign system and permits permanent flame protection on a purely physical basis. Every use of environmentally-harmful flame retardants or additives, such as halogens and phosphor has been eliminated. Further Schoeller finishing technologies such as NanoSphere, 3XDRY or coldblack can be applied without affecting the flame protection, the manufacturer explains.

Smart textiles

To create the high-tech textiles of the future, cooperation between widely diverse specialist fields is essential, the company reports. Schoeller Textil AG and Eschler Textil work closely together with partners from the garment and medical sectors, as well as with electronic companies and research institutes. The broad variety of conceivable and achievable end-use sectors ranges from entertainment, sport and interior design to medicine.

Schoeller is in the process of developing a heatable E-soft-shell material that can be cut to size as required. This innovative laminate is structured like a conventional soft-shell with corkshell technology, and can be produced for sale by the meter. The heatable backing is manufactured by Eschler. Specially incorporated conductive yarns enable uniform heat distribution and specific heating surfaces are functional at the usual voltages. The material can also be dyed and washed.

Another example of current cooperation is Hydro_Bot. Schoeller is working together with Osmotex on an electro-osmotic membrane for use in outerwear.
