Durak Tekstil, a leading Turkish manufacturer of industrial sewing and embroidery threads, is accelerating its international expansion with a growing focus on R&D-driven technical products and a strategic move into the US market. With a legacy rooted in quality and reliability, the company is now reshaping its identity through innovation and sustainable performance.

Innovation that enhances camouflage

Among Durak’s most groundbreaking innovations is the Durak Poly-Strong PC-IR sewing thread, developed in response to a specific request from Polish armed forces. Designed to be invisible to infrared (IR) cameras operating in the 700–1200 nm wavelength range, the thread enhances the stealth functionality of camouflage fabrics by eliminating visibility in the seams - an area typically prone to detection. The product is gaining traction in military and security sectors, as well as in nature gear and high-performance outdoor applications.

Produced in a distinct khaki green and available in multiple thicknesses, Durak Poly-Strong PC-IR complies with international standards in durability. It offers high resistance to strain, washing, water exposure, friction, hypochlorite, perspiration and UV light. The thread also inhibits the growth of microorganisms such as fungi and mould, contributing to hygiene and comfort for end users.

Making bedding and home textiles safer

Another standout in Durak Tekstil’s portfolio is Durak Bug Safe, a thread developed to protect home textiles and furnishings from pests. Targeting problem areas like seams - where bedbugs and mites typically nest - the thread uses a specially engineered scent to deter pests without relying on toxic chemicals. Proven effective for up to 30 washes, Bug Safe combines comfort, safety and sustainability. Its applications extend beyond home furnishings to include toys, outdoor products and agricultural garments.

Both threads exemplify Durak’s commitment to combining performance and sustainability. “Functionality, art and sustainability were determined as our basic pillars in our growth process,” said Yiğit Durak, Vice Chairman of the Board and third-generation leader of the family-owned business.

Establishing direct access to the US market

To strengthen its position in the North American market, the company has established Durak USA in North Carolina. The new operation will serve as a regional sales and logistics hub, significantly improving response times and reducing delivery windows. This move aligns with Durak Tekstil’s broader strategy to streamline global operations while staying close to customers and evolving market demands.

Additionally, the company has restructured its presence in China. By relocating its production line to Türkiye and converting its Chinese facilities into a sales office, Durak has centralised its manufacturing in Bursa. This consolidation includes bringing back investments in dyes and expanding domestic production capacity.

With approximately 5% of its turnover allocated to innovation - twice the industry average - Durak Tekstil is positioning itself as a leading force in technical threads. “Our R&D studies on technical threads continue uninterruptedly and direct us to new areas,” said Yiğit Durak. “Every decision we make is strategically calculated with a focus on long-term value creation.”
