Coreva is a new custom-engineered natural rubber-containing yarn developed by Italy’s Candiani aimed at further enabling the circularity of stretch denim.

Coreva yarn can replace common synthetics and petrochemical-based elastomers to allow the production of bio-based denim fabrics that will biodegrade in composting in less than six months.

In addition, the fabrics do not release any microplastics, conventional elastane or toxic chemicals, as tested to EU standard EN13432.

Patented Coreva yarn consists of organic cotton wrapped around a natural rubber core which retains the elasticity, durability and physical qualities of stretch denim fabrics.

“In a world where resources are diminishing and landfills are overflowing with discarded garments, we must look for renewable resources, in addition to biodegradable and compostable materials,” said  the company’s global manager Alberto Candiani. “Denim has to take the lead in this revolution and we are thrilled to be working alongside Denham the Jeanmaker and Stella McCartney and brands including Huit, Kings of Indigo and Dondup to share our innovation with the wider fashion industry.”
