Having just exhibited at Denimsandjeans Egypt in Cairo from January 19-20, Officina39 will next demonstrate its sustainable solutions for garment finishing at Colombiatex, which is taking place in Medellín, Colombia, from January 27-29.

In Medellín, the company, which is headquartered in Biella, Italy, will be hosted at PolJean’s booth and showcase its latest solutions including the Zero PP/All.In process for replacing the use of potassium permanganate (PP) in denim finishing.

Despite its well-documented toxicity and environmental risks, PP remains widely used for its ability to deliver worn, vintage effects at low cost. Finding a viable replacement has been a key challenge for the industry until now.

In a simplified process, the ZeroPP/All.In formula can be applied directly onto raw denim garments by spray or nebulization followed by immediate laser marking to define graphics or wear patterns. This is followed by dry ozone treatment immediately after the laser marking without rinsing. The ozone reacts with the laser-marked areas to replicate the typical indigo corrosion of PP. Following final washes and finishing the garment is market ready.

Also highlighted will be the Aqualess All-In-One class of powder auxiliaries engineered for next-generation denim stonewashing. Powered by an advanced biocatalyst optimised for endo-cellulolytic activity, this technology permanently eliminates the need for pumice stones while delivering superior, highly reproducible abrasion effects. Aqualess All-In-One is suitable not only for indigo and black denim, but also for garments treated with Officina39’s premium Recycrom and Novantic dyestuffs.

A complete denim collection developed in collaboration with Vicunha will be showcased at Colombiatex and the company will also participate in a dedicated industry panel on denim finishing and effects.

“Although Egypt and Colombia are very different markets in terms of structure and maturity, the need for operational and economic efficiency is universal,” says Andrea Venier, Officina39 managing director. “Today, brands and laundries everywhere are looking for solutions that improve performance, reduce costs and align with sustainability goals. Our innovations are designed precisely to meet these shared needs.”
