Green Theme Technologies, headquartered in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, has closed a $6 million Series C funding round which will accelerate the development of its its Empel technology platform.

GTT’s PFAS and water-free technology provides a sustainable alternative to traditional textile treatments, eliminating harmful chemicals and drastically reducing water use.

The Empel process uses monomers and crosslinkers to molecularly bond unique and safe finishes to the individual fibres found in yarns.

Thermal curing is employed to create a molecular covalent bond between the monomers and the fibres in the fabrics treated with patented clean chemistry. This curing is accomplished by passing fabrics through a heated zone.

By replacing traditional water-based wet finishing processes currently used to apply water repellents and dyes with the clean, efficient, and water-free Empel process, GTT and its licensing partners can significantly reduce the amount of water consumption associated dyeing and finishing.

Leading the funding round were Pangaea Ventures and Cottonwood Technology Ventures, two venture firms known for supporting breakthrough innovations in advanced materials and sustainability.

“We are delighted to partner with investors who share our commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation,” said Tom Lopez, CEO of Green Theme Technologies. “With this investment, we are well-positioned to accelerate our growth, advance our technology and drive meaningful change in the textile industry. Our solutions offer an effective way for manufacturers to produce high-performance products without sacrificing sustainability.”

“Green Theme Technologies has developed a remarkable solution that meets an urgent need within the industry,” added Chris Erickson, General Partner at Pangaea Ventures. “As lead investors, we’re proud to support a company pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in sustainable manufacturing.”
