Haute couture from cocoa bean husks

University of Leeds to explore further uses for Magnum’s ice cream manufacturing by-products.

To promote its first dairy-free Vegan range, ice cream brand Magnum has partnered with luxury Dutch fashion designer Iris Van Herpen to create the first haute couture dress made entirely from cocoa bean husks. 

The Magnum Vegan Dress was unveiled during Paris Fashion Week when Cindy Bruna took to the runway in Iris Van Herpen’s 15th Anniversary show.

The cocoa bean husks were processed to create a fully organic biopolymer material for the dress, with 3D printed details including copper-coated plant-like body embellishments.

Magnum aims to strengthen its long-term commitment to fashion and has announced a partnership with the University of Leeds.

The brand is commissioning a research project with the Leeds Institute of Textiles and Colour (LITAC) in the School of Design to further this commitment and look at how Magnum can bring to life accessible, sustainable fashion using by-products from its core ingredients.
