Russian technical textiles on the rise
Production of technical textiles has more than doubled over the past seven years
Earlier this month, our correspondent Adrian Wilson filed an interesting report about the Swiss textile machinery industry, after attending the Swissmem pre-ITMA conference in Lucerne Switzerland.
It has been calculated that the 44 members of Swissmem – the Swiss textile machinery association – can draw on a staggering 4,011 years of combined engineering and processing know-how between them.
A number of the companies mark notable anniversaries in 2019. Benninger, for example, the resource-saving dyeing technology specialist, is 150 this year, Luwa, a leader in air handling systems, is 80 and flat knitting machine builder Steiger is 70.

Highly accelerated biodegradation rate for new synthetic insulation material
john 29th October 2018, 19:53PMThe article announces that "the bio-degradation process leaves behind water, methane, carbon dioxide and biomass." Both methane and carbon dioxide are widely considered undesirable in relation to carbon footprint. Water is OK. This leaves me wondering what the 'biomass' residue is actually composed of chemically, since the original polymer - albeit reclaimed - is synthetic. If this unspecified 'biomass' can still be ingested in an ocean environment, then where is the upside of the equation?
