The functional textiles to be displayed within the Heimtextil Interior, Architecture and Hospitality Library have now been chosen by a jury of experts, with 85 exhibitors selected from the large number of entries.

These products will be displayed in the elaborate setting of the library in Hall 4.0 at the Messe Frankfurt Exhibition Centre at the show next January.

The latest edition of the materials library for functional textiles will focus on five different characteristics – flame retardancy, sound absorbency, light resistance, antimicrobial performance and water repellency.

“The library provides visitors with targeted orientation across all five functional categories,” says jury member Felix Diener of Marburger Tapetenfabrik. “It is imperative that textiles can be experienced three-dimensionally so that they can be seen live in the light and their innovations can stimulate creativity.”

“I see the creation of comparison possibilities between products as a clear strength of the library,” adds architect Jasmin Grego. “Experiencing curated submissions staged side by side shows the range of haptic-material designs with the same functionality. In this way, even the unexpected becomes tangible.”

For Gerhard Sperling of the Association of the German Home Textiles Industry, fixed DIN, EN and ISO standards are decisive factors.

“These classifications offer interior architects technical and functional orientation with depth – standards not only state whether textiles are water-repellent or light-resistant, for example, but above all, exactly how water-resistant or how lightfast the fabric properties are in comparison to others,” he observes.

For deeper insights and the opportunity to exchange ideas and information, the curators are offering library tours on the first two days of the fair which takes place from January 10-13, and the digital library will be open all year round at www.textile-library.com, providing a filtered overview of the products chosen and their different functions and application profiles.

With more than 2,400 exhibitors, Heimtextil is the foremost international platform for training, exchanging ideas and information, discovering trends and gaining inspiration thanks to its extensive programme of events.

“With its line-up for the interior, architecture and hospitality markets, Heimtextil is once again offering a high-grade programme of events for the contract business,” says Heimtextil director Bettina Bär. “The 2023 edition is will be the ideal platform for exchanging ideas and information with the international sector, for making and cultivating business contacts and for generating inspiration in the textile furnishing market.
