Italian knitting company Carvico is donating 10,000 special vests to the Dolomites Marathon (Maratona dles Dolomites-Enel), the annual single-day road cycle race over seven mountain passes which this year takes place on July 4th.
Carvico has created a special Maratona 2021 fabric based on Repetable polyester yarn derived from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles by RadiciGroup.
“Cycling while wearing our vest will allow the athletes taking part to show that sports lovers are also respectful of the environment,” said Laura Colnaghi Calissoni, Carvico president. “For many years now, Carvico has been implementing several environmental policies aimed at creating a truly sustainable supply chain and a circular economy model.”
The 10,000 vests have been created by the recovery of 102,000 bottles and Radici points out that compared to virgin polyester, Repetable production achieves 45% fewer CO2 emissions and consumes 90% less water and 60% less energy.
“We have had a long-term partnership with Carvico aimed at launching various high-performance solutions which are also sustainable and eco-friendly,” said Angelo Radici, president of the RadiciGroup. “We have teamed up with several strategic partners to expand our range of products made of recycled products coming from a local, transparent and traceable supply chain.”
