How BYD built the capacity to make 50 million facemasks per day

Just over two months ago, on 23 March, Innovation in Textiles reported on how BYD Company Ltd, one of China's largest privately-owned enterprises, had created the world's largest mass-produced facemasks plant in Shenzen. The plant was reported to be running at full capacity and able to produce a colossal 5 million masks and 300,000 bottles of medical grade hand sanitiser per day. Now, BYD says it is making an astounding 50 million facemasks per day.

“With the deadly coronavirus raging across the world and a global face mask shortage, BYD mobilized its resources for the production of masks,” said in its newsletter.

“A team of 3,000 engineers, together with BYD’s powerful capabilities in the research and design of molds and industrial equipment, enabled the company to develop high-quality masks in record time.”

World-class manufacturing sites and production lines were specially built, and the company now has the capacity to build 50 million masks per day! Strict quality controls allowed BYD to obtain several important international certifications.
