Incoming Chairman Jean-Marie Becker (Ahlstrom) will take over from Kenneth Strassner (Kimberly-Clark), who has retired from his previous position. Paul Eevers (Unilever) continues his role as Treasurer, and Gerd Ries (Johson & Johnson) continues his roles as joint Vice-Chairman with Josef Schmidtbauer (Lenzing) who is taking the role for the first time.

Continuing the tradition to give voice and presence to companies that represent the breadth of the nonwovens and related industries, Becker welcomed three new members to the Board; Mr Christian B. Marx (DuPont, Switzerland), Mr Mikael Staal Axelsen (Fibertex, Denmark), and Mr Bob Stargel (Kimberley-Clark, USA).

Following their service, Ken Strassner, the outgoing Chairman and Geoffrey Katz (DuPont) will not be seeking additional terms as Governors. In his thanks to the Board for their support during his term as Chair, Strassner paid thanks to all Board Members, including those long-serving companies that continued to provide their time and experience freely for the benefit of nonwovens businesses in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and beyond.

Outlining his vision, Becker spoke of the support the Association continues to provide to the nonwovens industry, across all sectors and to multiple points across the value chain, “Given the recent challenging economic times, and the close watch we keep on the future topics that could impact our businesses, effective support from trade associations such as EDANA are essential in bringing the industry together to address those matters of importance.”

In welcoming the new Board, Pierre Wiertz, General Manager of EDANA said “The foundation the board provides to ensure the work EDANA does on behalf of the industry is vital. Add to this, recent programmes including Vision 2020 which gives us a snapshot of where our industry might be in 10 years time, we have a powerful tool to ensure that our activities meet not only our members’ expectations, but also the broader industry’s requirements well into the future.”

For the first time in its nearly 40-year history, the 2010 vote on election of the Board of Governors was conducted electronically, with voting performed on a secure password-protected online site. Aggregated final results were delivered to the EDANA General Manager ahead of the Annual General Meeting.

EDANA, serves the nonwovens and related industries, and has 220 member companies in over 30 countries. Its Mission is to create the foundation for sustainable growth of the nonwovens, absorbent hygiene products and related industries through active promotion, education and dialogue.
