Technical Fibre Products at JEC Americas

Technical Fibre Products, a leading manufacturer of advanced nonwovens, will be exhibiting at the JEC Americas and Techtextil NA events, taking place from 13-15 May in the Georgia World Conference Center (GWCC) in Atlanta. TFP will be showcasing a new, extended range of lightweight thermoplastic veils including PEEK, Nylon, Polyester, PEI and PPS. These thermoplastic veils can be incorporated into a composite as interlaminar layers between reinforcement fabrics, offering improvements to the composite’s fracture toughness by reducing microcrack propagation, the company reports.

New developments

Other new developments include the recent commissioning of a flat bed laminator as well as the manufacture of a nonwoven produced exclusively from recycled carbon fibre.

The latter is said to demonstrate comparable properties to TFP’s virgin fibre veils with the added benefit of environmental sustainability, whilst lamination enables TFP to increase functionality through bonding of multi-layer structures, powder addition and compression of substrates.

TFP’s ultra lightweight range of materials will also be on display. According to the manufacturer, these lightweight materials are the ideal candidates for use as a carrier or stabilising support for fragile materials or adhesive films, as they facilitate uniform application of the adhesive with a minimum associated weight addition.

Surface engineering of composites

As well as these recent material and capability developments, TFP will be promoting the full range of Optiveil, Optimat and Tecnofire materials which are specifically designed for the surface engineering of composites.

Optiveil and Optimat are designed for composite surfacing solutions. Their exceptional uniformity of fibre dispersion and resin uptake is said to deliver a high quality surface finish whilst fibre type can be selected to impart additional functionality such as conductivity, EMI shielding and corrosion and abrasion resistance.

Tecnofire is also said to provide surface functionality, delivering highly effective passive fire protection for composites without compromising the integrity of the structure.
