Performance Apparel Markets: Product developments and innovations

Advansa has introduced two new versions of its Thermo°Cool fibre. One version, called Thermo°Cool with Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF), is able to provide protection against UV radiation while the other version, called Soft'Tech, is said to be smoother and more supple that the original Thermo°Cool fibre. Report Summary

Advansa has introduced two new versions of its Thermo°Cool fibre. One version, called Thermo°Cool with Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF), is able to provide protection against UV radiation while the other version, called Soft'Tech, is said to be smoother and more supple that the original Thermo°Cool fibre. Stöhr and Wykes International, meanwhile, have developed a new range of composite yarns called Thermo°Cool with Merino.

In other developments, Eschler and Grabher Group have developed a new range of high performance fabrics for sportswear and outdoor clothing, and Melchior Textil has developed a new line of temperature regulating fabrics. U-Long High-Tech Textile is using a SmartSilver additive to provide its performance fabrics with antimicrobial properties, and Schoeller Textil has developed a new insect repellent fabric finishing treatment called Inzectic.

In the protective apparel sector, Ashburn Hill Corp has introduced a new range of Tecgen FR protective jeans which provide protection against electric arcs and flash fires, and Optimer Brands has introduced a new flame resistant flight-suit and combat shirt for members of the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). Levi Strauss & Co and Filson, meanwhile, have introduced a new workwear collection for men.

In sports apparel, Icebreaker has introduced a range of garments made from Realfleece, as well as its first apparel collections for running and cycling. Berghaus has expanded its Tech T Advanced collection of base layers to include 19 new styles. The company has also introduced a new range of waterproof outdoor jackets.

K-Swiss will use P2i's ion-mask technology to provide two of its new styles of footwear with water repellent properties. The footwear will be introduced in February 2011.
