Pertex, a leading producer of extremely lightweight and highly-durable performance fabrics, has developed new Pertex Shield AP and a lighter weight version of Pertex Shield+, in response for the growing demand for extremely-lightweight, weatherproof outerwear.

“Pertex fabrics are developed to match the specific needs of the end-user,” said Steve Laycock, Brand Director, Pertex.

“By altering the design, construction and finish, we are able to engineer products to suit a range of applications. We are thrilled to have partnered with Montane and Rab in the design of their new garments made with our new Pertex Shield+ and Pertex Shield AP technologies.”

High performance apparel

For Spring/Summer 2016, outdoor apparel brand Rab has reengineered its award-winning Flashpoint jacket for men and women with Pertex Shield+ 3 layer fabric. The shell’s new, super-lightweight fabrication, along with its minimal seams and micro seam tape, is said to offer end users protection from the elements when weight is at a premium.

Montane will introduce its new men’s packable Minimus 777 Jacket and Minimus 777 Pull-On – both made with Pertex Shield+. These minimalist jackets are designed to go unnoticed in a pack and be pulled out for emergency weather protection while still allowing the wearer to move quickly and comfortably.

Montane’s new men’s and women’s Air Jacket is a light, breathable and versatile mountain shell constructed with Pertex Shield AP. Designed with a 100% nylon rip-stop face and an advanced air porous membrane, the Air Jacket is developed to offer the highest levels of waterproof durability and breathability – providing all day comfort in a wide range of weather conditions.

Durability and performance

Pertex AP is a high-performance waterproof breathable fabric, which features an advanced air-porous membrane to offer the highest levels of durability and performance. Pertex Shield AP is said to offer enhanced comfort across a range of weather conditions and environments. Its durable construction ensures reliable protection throughout the garment’s lifetime – even for extended periods in extreme conditions, according to the manufacturer.

It is designed to offer extreme wind and water protection with excellent breathability to create the ultimate waterproof performance fabric for fast-moving outdoor athletes and activities such as alpine climbing, cycling, adventure racing and skiing.

The new Pertex fabric range will be presented at the OutDoor show that takes place from 15-18 July in Friedrichshafen, Germany, and at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, from 5-8 August in Salt Lake City, UT.
