Century Place a US based supplier to the textile rental trade is using Ecosure, a fibre made from post consumer PET polymer, in its latest line of knitted rental uniforms.

Poole Company, a manufacturer and distributor of recycled and virgin polyester fibre says its EcoSure fibres, which Century Place has selected for its range, are certified by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) as being manufactured from 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) PET polymer.

"We are pleased to be affiliated with Century Place as a leading supplier to the textile rental business. The alliance formed with Century Place demonstrates that both parties are committed to respecting our environment and doing our part."

Century Place produces and sells a line of rental-friendly knitted polo shirts to the industrial laundry industry which are mainly used as corporate uniforms. Mike Carter, president of Century Place, commented:

"The process of making our eco-friendly apparel begins with plastic bottles, such as soft drink containers. We utilize about eight 2 litre bottles to produce a knit shirt, and this is post consumer recycled material that will now be repurposed and diverted from a landfill."

Studies from NAPCOR (The National Association for PET Container Resources) the trade association for the PET plastic packaging industry, determined that 1.451 billion pounds of PET were collected and sold for recycling in 2008, and the use of PCR polyester versus virgin polyester reduces energy consumption by 84% and greenhouse gas emissions by 71%. In addition, Century Place says, the use of a PCR product means less landfill stress, less energy consumed, less greenhouse gases generated and less clean water used.

Carter continued: "Century Place is paving the way for corporations to make environmental choices when they clothe their employees with rental uniforms such as our knit polo shirts. By choosing a product made of post-consumer recycled material, businesses of all sizes are showing corporate responsibility and embracing sustainability."

David Poole, president of Poole Company stated: "We are pleased to be affiliated with Century Place as a leading supplier to the textile rental business. The alliance formed with Century Place demonstrates that both parties are committed to respecting our environment and doing our part."

Poole continued: "Not only does EcoSure allow companies and consumers to embrace the environment, but its unique production and composition offers manufacturers a leap forward in performance, colour, and acceptability over other recycled fibres."
