Speakers and delegates gathered in Berlin last week for the latest edition of the International Conference on Textile Coating and Laminating – TCL2019.

The presentations given over the two-day conference highlighted the drive for individual, cost-effective and sustainable products whilst reducing consumption of water, chemicals and energy. New concepts and techniques were described to achieve these aims, which sparked informative discussions during the forum sessions.

For the first time at a TCL conference, developments in smart and functional textiles had its own session with talks on graphene and 2D materials enabling wearable and textile electronics; printing and coating technologies to develop smart textiles; advanced applications of phase-change materials and new mechanism for delivering thermo regulation.

Participants agreed that TCL2019 offered valuable and interesting content and praised the high quality of the individual presentations in a well-structured programme. There were also networking opportunities for all participants during the breaks in and around the exhibition area and at the Evening Reception, the organisers report.

Organised by International Newsletters, the conference director was William C. (Bill) Smith of Industrial Textile Associates, and the conference chair was Adrian Wilson. TCL2019 was the latest in this conference series spanning 27 years and concerned with innovations and trends in textile coating and laminating.
