Discover how military market shelter requirements drive the innovative industrial base; and examine current needs being met by a combination of MILSEC and commercial hybrids.

Session 2 - Quick Deployment in the Field

 Jeff Jackson, Director, DHS Systems explains the need for shelters that can quickly be assembled and dismantled and how the applications and capabilities for these structures continue to expand. He provides the latest in both military and homeland security use of Quick Erect/Strike Soft-walled Shelters.

Shawn Conner, Regional Sales Manager, Noble Fibers discusses the next generation of apparel systems and wound care in the context of Any Theater, Any Climate, Any Foe. These systems will feature the ability to stop bacteria growth - limiting infection and athlete's fool. Learn how silver fiber technology is a key component of these applications and some that are just coming to light - printed circuitry, antennas and more.

Steve Welker, General Manager of Commercial Development, Crosslink is the speaker on the topic of the Ultra-flexible, Rugged, Printed Lighting System. Short deployment, re-packing, and relocation times are essential to the effectiveness of the modern U.S. military. New technologies to replace heavy, ruggedized fluorescent lighting systems that are time-consuming to deploy are on the horizon.

Session 3 - New Innovation in Personal and Collective Protection

Bo Soested, Director, Outlast Europe speaks about Innovations in Adaptive Comfort. Hear how phase change materials are making temperature swings from the desert to the cold of a mountain peak more tolerable. These materials are able to absorb, store and release excess body heat when needed and include applications for boots, gloves, uniforms, sleeping bags and more.

Dr. Tim Smith, Director, Flexible Armor Center talks about research into the formulation and use of Shear Thickening Fluids (STFs) for armor applications that began only in the last few years.

Francois Simard, Steadfast, Inc. addresses The Evolution of Military Chemical/Biological Protection. Whether the phosgene, chlorine or mustard gasses used in WWII; Novichok nerve agents developed in the 1990s; or weaponized anthrax; protection from chemical and biological threats are essential for the modern soldier. Simard will present an overview of protective options and their effectiveness in different environments.
