Alexium International Group has announced that its affiliate Alexium Government Solutions LLC (AGS) has submitted a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) proposal to the US Army to develop novel multi-threat protection capabilities on military applications.

The proposed Phase I project - focused on providing flame retardancy in combination with chemical/biological protection - is a 6 initial month project for the US Army and worth a total of $150K. The partnering research institution under the STTR is Gaston College, North Carolina. After Phase I completion, AGS may be invited to proceed to a Phase II stage with further funding of up to an additional $1Million.

The proposed effort would combine and extend the capabilities of Alexium’s Ascalon FR and Cleanshell CB repellency treatments. Developing and optimizing these novel treatments - and integrating them into a durable topical finish on standard military fabrics is the central research challenge to be addressed in this project.

“This project will leverage and extend the state-of-the art capabilities of our Ascalon flame retardant and Cleanshell CB repellency treatments. We appreciate the opportunity to bid on this project and believe that we can deliver an integrated, multi-threat solution for the soldier,” stated Stefan Susta, AGS’s President and Alexium’s Chief Operating Officer.

Nicholas Clark, Alexium’s CEO added: “Whilst we are focused on rolling out commercial products, we see a lot of value in pursing these targeted US DoD research and development projects under AGS as a tool to extend and introduce our novel solutions to the US Military, whilst extending our own product capability and knowledge”. Mr. Clark added “This project could potentially lead to valuable future DoD orders for a combined FR and Chem/Bio protective ensemble for soldiers in the field”.

The project would be executed and managed by AGS. A decision by the US Army on the AGS submitted proposal is anticipated in the next quarter.
