Our phased involvement right from manufacturing to execution for various projects undertaken has translated well and helped us enrich our domain expertise,” commented T. Kulkarni – Vice President, GEO Division.

“We are extremely bullish on the segment and the recognition of our efforts comes in at a very crucial time. We are grateful to CBIP and Indian Chapter of IGS for appreciating our efforts and we expect to sustain the momentum while exploring potential growth opportunities.”

Use of geo-synthetics

While geo-synthetics have been used in the Western countries from the late 1970s onwards, in India, geo-synthetics started being used from the early 1990s. Since then, geo-synthetic usage has slowly spread to form an integral part of the country’s infrastructure fabric.

In the year 1985, Central Board of Irrigation & Power (CBIP), as part of its technology forecasting activities, identified geosynthetic as an important area relevant to India’s need for infrastructure development. In the year 1992, CBIP established the Committee for International Geosynthetics Society (India), which also acts as Indian Chapter of International Geosynthetics Society (IGS). The occasion also marks CBIP completing 30 years of its service to the Geosynthetics Community.
