The Future Materials Awards, given by Future Materials, an international technical textiles magazine published by the World Textile Information Network (WTiN), recognize innovation, achievement and leadership throughout the technical textile industry, which has grown exponentially over recent decades.

“At Milliken, we challenge ourselves to establish expectations of quality and innovation never before achieved. As we celebrate our 150th anniversary, this award demonstrates our continuous commitment to develop innovations that do good – for our industry, for our customers and for the world we share,” commented Joe Salley, president and CEO of Milliken & Company.

Expertise and innovation

Milliken has been exploring, discovering and creating ways to enhance people’s lives since 1865. While Milliken comes from humble beginnings as a general store in Maine, it has expanded into a host of diverse industries over the last 150 years, focusing on research and development of innovations, the company reports.

Today, Milliken manufactures custom-engineered, award-winning textiles for a variety of industrial markets including workwear, automotive, building and infrastructure, reinforcements and filtration products.

Innovations include flame resistant (FR) fabrics that help save lives of industrial workers and military personnel, technologies that reduce the weight of automobiles to help reduce fuel consumption and emissions, and floor covering constructed with 100 percent recycled fibers that are both durable and beautiful.

For 150 years, Milliken has been innovating with the purpose to explore, discover and create ways to enhance people’s lives. Its community of innovators has developed one of the larger collections of United States patents held by a private US company.

With expertise across a breadth of disciplines, including specialty chemical, floor covering and performance materials, the company works around the world aiming to add true value to people’s lives, improve health and safety, and help make this world more sustainable.
