Uster Technologies is celebrating 150 years of innovation – a journey that has taken it from telegraphy equipment to global leadership in textile quality management, with continued success put down to continuous adaptation to customer needs and industry change.
Known primarily for instruments such as yarn clearers and evenness testers, Uster is now positioning itself as a trusted partner for spinning mills. A customer once described Uster as a “family doctor” – a metaphor the company embraces. Like a doctor, Uster not only diagnoses issues but also offers long-term guidance, helping mills align quality management with their broader business goals.
This shift is captured in the vision ‘Think Quality – Next Level’, which moves beyond reactive quality control towards proactive, integrated solutions. By combining advanced sensors, cloud-connected instruments, AI-powered platforms like the Uster 360Q and expert advisory services, Uster is enabling mills to optimise performance, increase profitability and even anticipate the impact of raw material choices on final fabric quality.
Sustainability is central to this transformation.
“Just as Uster pioneered the first evenness tester in 1948, it now aims to lead in developing quality management tools that accelerate textile recycling and support the wider use of recycled fibers,” said executive vice-president Sivakumar Narayanan, during a webinar organised to mark the anniversary on September 1st.
With proven systems like Uster FiberQ and upcoming innovations to be launched at ITMA Asia + CITME 2025, Uster continues to set new benchmarks. Its long-term vision is a fully connected, intelligent mill, where data drives both sustainability and competitiveness across the value chain.
Headquartered in Uster, Switzerland, the company serves the global textile industry through eight subsidiaries, 50 sales agents, and a strong local service network.
“For Uster, reaching 150 years is not only a milestone but also a foundation for shaping the next century of textile excellence,” said Uster CEO Davide Maccabruni.
