Swiss textile technology innovator HeiQ and its German technology partner Tracekey for traceability systems have developed a solution to track and trace the manufacturing of garments.

Identity, an innovation breakthrough, specifically developed for the outdoor industry, confirms a garment is authentic and accountable, addressing a clear need of ever more demanding textile consumers.

The new product now makes it possible to track and trace where every part of the garment was made and put together using a smartphone application and the QR code.

Unique serial numbers

The Identity technology makes use of unique serial numbers expressed in an individualised QR code. The unique serial number groups all the traceable garment components specified by the brand.

A consumer who scans the QR code on the hangtag or textile care label can track each component of the garment, its origin, its consumer labels certifications, even the manufacturing person and date online.

With Identity by HeiQ consumers can transparently access the key components, origins and manufacturers of the garment they intend to purchase in store or in online stores. For the first time, a brand can guarantee to its consumers full product accountability and authenticity from fibre to point of sales, the company reports.

Transparent and sustainable

Identity is a tool that can change the consumer’s buying perception and experience, HeiQ believes. Brands can show consumers that they are accountable for their products and work in a transparent and sustainable way.

For the ‘sustainable part’, HeiQ also provides its fluorine free DWR technology Barrier Eco. This bluesign approved and Oekotex confirmed technology has been adopted amongst others by The North Face, Vaude, Völkl and R’adys.

HeiQ will present Identity and its new low friction technology Glider as well as its bestsellers Barrier Eco, Pure and Adaptive at OutDoor Friedrichshafen that is taking place from 10-13 July 2014. HeiQ will also be exhibiting at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City from 6-9 August.
