Report summary
In this report, the first in a series of three in which the world’s top 40 nonwovens producers are profiled, Karen Bitz provides the latest information and analysis about the activities of the world’s leading ten producers of nonwovens. For many of the top ten players, sales in 2024 remained flat compared with the previous year, reflecting a continuing weak economy and a challenging business environment.
Having said that, many of the top ten producers announced investments in 2024 and 2025. For example, Freudenberg has acquired the core business of Heytex Group and has added new lines in India for producing interlinings.
Ahlstrom has acquired ErtelAlsop, and has added a molecular filtration media line in Italy. Fitesa has added nonwovens lines at sites in Sweden and the USA while Zhejiang Kingsafe Hygiene Materials has invested in two new air-through bonding lines in China, and Alkegen has started up full-scale commercial production of its proprietary aerogel insulation, AlkeGel, in the USA.
Meanwhile, Kimberly-Clark has announced that it will invest US$2 bn in expanding its North American business over a period ending in 2030. However, DuPont has separated into two publicly traded companies and intends to sell its Aramids business, and Magnera Corporation has announced an initiative which is expected to result in a 5% reduction in its nonwovens capacity.
