In addition, Turkish researchers have recently unveiled projects to develop innovative textiles and launch their production in partnership with potential investors. These were presented during last month’s UTIB International Textile and Apparel Sector International R&D Brokerage Event in Bursa, which attracted participants from 20 countries.

According to our technical textiles correspondent Jaroslaw Adamowski, these innovations could prove to be a significant asset in the ongoing efforts of Turkish textile producers to expand to new foreign markets. Cintas and Google collaborate on smart workwear

Also in the innovation front, Cintas, a leading workwear manufacturer, has joined forces with Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects Group (ATAP) to explore advancing Project Jacquard into the enterprise space. The news comes following last month’s announcement from Google and Levi’s who revealed the first garment created through Project Jacquard. Link to this story Jana?

Jacquard is a smart garment technology, which enables conductive fibres to be woven into textiles, connecting interactive apparel wirelessly to devices, software platforms, and cloud services. Cintas and ATAP are collaborating to advance use cases in work environments, with the goal of developing Jacquard-enhanced uniforms.

The initiative will seek to deliver solutions that address various challenges in multiple enterprise verticals, with an initial focus on healthcare and safety applications. See more here – Cintas and Google join forces to develop smart workwear.

Release of Responsible Wool Standard

The wool industry is making news again, with the release of the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) by Textile Exchange, a non-profit organization working closely with all sectors of the textile supply chain. The RWS is an independent, voluntary standard intended to be a global benchmark for animal welfare and land management practices in sheep farming.

In March 2014, H&M and Textile Exchange started an International Working Group (IWG) to develop the Responsible Wool Standard. On farms, the certification aims to ensure that sheep are treated with respect to their five freedoms and the best practices in the management and protection of the land are adhered to. Through the processing stages, certification ensures that wool from certified farms is properly identified and tracked. Awarded for 20 years of Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification

Another sustainability story this week comes from Radici Yarn, a RadiciGroup company, which became among the 33 companies in the fashion textiles sector that have received an award for being certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 for 20 years.

The Oeko-Tex award ceremony organized by the Varese Chamber of Commerce was held on 21 June, at MUDEC in Milan, where Radici Yarn SpA was one of the honourees. The Bergamo-based RadiciGroup company, founded in 1974, is today engaged in the manufacture of nylon yarn and staple fibre. More details here – Radici Yarn awarded for 20 years of Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification.

Showcase of British fashion technology

Some more news from the fashion sector comes from this year's launch event of London Technology Week, which brought together some of the UK's leading fashion technology designers this week.

The installation includes a 3D printed wearable garment designed by Modeclix, the holographic intelligent mannequin from Headworks and a behind the scenes look at London Fashion Week using 360 degree video and content curated by creative communications agency Village.
