At the 55th International Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, France, from June 16-22, Toray Industries will highlight its continued advancement of composite material solutions that enable next-generation aerospace, defence and space systems.

Torayca carbon fibre, high-performance thermoset systems and Cetex thermoplastic composites deliver the optimal balance of strength, toughness, processability and long-term durability while supporting critical qualification and certification requirements.

The advanced materials are qualified across major global defence and space programmes ranging from 5th and 6th-generation fighter aircraft and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) to next-generation missiles, rotorcraft and orbital systems. Among recent milestones is the selection of Toray’s T1100/3960 carbon fibre prepreg for the US Army’s Future-Range Assault Aircraft programme to be used in primary airframe structures.

Toray composite technologies have also enabled the widespread adoption of lightweight, fuel-efficient materials for large passenger jets and now play a pivotal role in the development of electric and hybrid propulsion aircraft, including electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Thse materials are also characterised by a high strength-to-weight ratio, processing efficiency and the robust qualification data needed for certification.

Toray has recently expanded its portfolio with advanced thermoplastic composites such as Cetex TC1130 PESU, engineered for aircraft interior applications, and Cetex TC915 PA+, developed to meet performance demands focused on durability and lightweight design – particularly in urban air mobility (UAM) and UAS platforms. Other product expansions include Torayca T1200 carbon fibre, with the world’s highest tensile strength of 8 gigapascals (GPa).

The ongoing expansion of manufacturing facilities in France to support market growth in Europe focuses on standard and high modulus fibres used and qualified in commercial aviation, space and defence applications. Advanced towpreg products are also available for filament-wound and automated placement manufactured aerostructures.
