Alkegen to add over 30 MFGF lines

Response to demand from rapidly-growing industry sectors like batteries, high end air and liquid filtration, and medical testing media.

Alkegen, the new company founded through the merger of Lydall and Unifrax, headquartered in Buffalo, New York, plans to add over 30 new manufacturing lines at plants around the world to increase its capacity for micro-fine glass fibres (MFGF) by 30%.

“Our advanced micro-fine glass fibres are critical components in many of the world’s most innovative products, from medical devices to battery packs for electric vehicles,” said John Dandolph, president and chief executive officer. “These latest investments reflect Alkegen’s ongoing commitment to our partners in the fibre technology space, increasing supply in anticipation of future demand as we continue to develop compelling new speciailty applications for these advanced glass fibre chemistries.”

Alkegen plans to accelerate enhanced MFGF capacity by adding a total of eight manufacturing lines at its facility in Bahrain and 22 lines at its US-based facility located in Summerville, South Carolina. The company also plans to expand and improve MFGF capacity and operations in Songyuan, China, including doubling its current rotary capacity in the region.
