UK-headquartered WIRA Instrumentation showcased its latest Fibre Fineness Meter at the recent ITMA Asia + CITME exhibition in Singapore, enabling mills to rapidly determine the average diameter of wool and other fibres quickly, using the well proven air flow principle
Incorporating a colour touch screen interface making operation even easier, the meter’s on-board processor automatically controls operation of the instrument and calculates test results for direct reading on screen.
Each meter is calibrated using standard dry-combed tops available from Interwoollabs and calibration for dry combed tops is carried out in accordance with method 2 in test method IWTO-6-13. For the testing of loose wool core samples, the meter is calibrated using short randomised open fibres prepared from standard tops, following the procedure in test method IWTO-28-13.
Special calibrations are available for the testing of other fibres including glass and mineral fibres, cotton, cashmere and mohair, and an optional temperature and humidity probe allows automatic recording of lab conditions.
Also promoted in Singapore was the RapidPro hand-held moisture meter.
Designed to measure textiles and nonwovens, as well as a wide range of associated materials, the RapidPro offers instant results from an ergonomically designed device.
“This latest technology for the rapid measurement of moisture comes with mutiple calibrations built in, so mills no longer have to settle for a ‘one-size fits all’ hand-held meter,” explained sales and marketing manager Katie Brydon. “In addition, custom calibrations can be easily added to the unit’s memory.”
The RapidPro is available with a 2-pin probe for bales, an 8-pin probe for cones and a mini-can sensor loose fibres and custom probes are also available.
